A Cartoon Monsoon Christmas
Dec 15, 2015 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm| $8
A love letter to beloved shows like Pee Wee’s Playhouse and Lamb Chop’s Play-Along, comedians Joe Rumrill and Mary Houlihan invite you to a cavalcade of original costumed characters, animations, and sketches from both real humans and puppet humans.
Mary Houlihan is a comedian, writer, actor, animator, and visual artist living in Brooklyn, NY. She is the co-creator of Cartoon Monsoon, a live theater show running at The Annoyance Theatre. She’s performed at the Northside Festival, Brooklyn Comedy Festival, Philadelphia Five Dollar Comedy Week, and Boston Comedy Arts Festival. She played Lana Del Rey in the “Lana Del Race For The Cure” on Billy On The Street. She is a writer for Reductress, and a writer/performer on The Special Without Brett Davis on public access. She has created animated shorts for Comedy Central, and acted in web videos for Comedy Central and IFC. She curates and produces “Comedy Cassette Tape,” a compilation tape of funny songs and sketches from people all over the USA on indie label Oxtail Recordings. She makes a living selling paintings ordered by email and delivered by mail and at her shows. “Mary Houlihan: Live ‘N’ Good” at Union Hall is her first one-woman show, consisting of stand-up, characters, and sketch.
Joe Rumrill is a stand-up comedian and writer who performs regularly at UCB, the PIT and various comedy shows across Brooklyn. Joe started out by performing in rock bands, but got really tired of lugging amps to shows. Turns out you don’t need to lug amps around to do stand up, so now he just does that instead. He writes and directs videos and was part of the 2014 Brooklyn Comedy Festival. He’s also the creator of “Fresh Perspectives” a popular weirdo comedy showcase in Williamsburg he co-hosts with friend Julio Torres.
Tim Platt is a comedian and performance artist living in Brooklyn. He performs improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater and stand up all around the city. Tim is a co-founder of the experimental theater group GRANDMA who just completed a run of their show MAKE PEOPLE at La Mama Experimental Theater Club. Tim is an actor and director for the absurdist children’s theater company The Story Pirates. Under the pseudonym King Bozo, Tim illustrates cards and gives them to strangers daily (ilovegiftcards.tumblr.com).
Steven DeSiena is a comedian, musician, and producer born and raised in New York City. He’s created over a dozen comedy shows in theaters, concert venues, and art galleries across the city, mixing stand-up, variety, sketch, music, and plays. His work has been featured in the Brooklyn Comedy Festival, on web shorts for IFC, Comedy Central, televised on Manhattan CTV, and on stages such as UCB, the PIT, and Magnet Theater, amongst others. As a composer, he has scored multiple live shows and full-length plays, including Cartoon Monsoon. His current productions include the episodic “Steven’s Piano Recitals” (The Annoyance Theater) and a live sketch show called “The Deleted Scenes Society” (The Experiment Gallery).
