Bugs in the Dark EP Release Party!
Nov 21, 2014 @ 9:00 pm
Punk-infused, apocalyptic art rock trio Bugs in the Dark is a meeting of poetic and musical minds. Drawing inspiration from supergroups such as Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Blonde Redhead, Sonic Youth, Dead Weather, and A Place to Bury Strangers, the Brooklyn band have made a stamp on the local New York DIY scene. From commanding the stages of SXSW and CMJ to killing sets at Union Pool and Knitting Factory, Bugs in the Dark allure all with their high-energy live shows, unbreakable chemistry, and dark rock roots.
It all began when nationally acclaimed tattooer Karen Rockower Glass (vocals/guitar) and entrepreneurial bartender Zach Glass (vocals/guitar) discovered a mutual love for writing lyrics and poetry through their work in various performances. Rockower and Glass joined forces to form their first band, The Angelic Bombs. Evolving into a sultry, reckless, and powerful collage of sound, their sophomore band Bugs in the Dark came to fruition in 2006. With fortuitous and undeniable chemistry (and a unique sound stemming from the omission of a bass player,) the debut EP Shake Shake was recorded in one week in December 2006, before the band played their first show and released the EP in January 2007. The band followed up with two releases, Grand Avenue EP in 2008 and Hang it on the Wall in 2011, when producer/engineer Rich Crescenti joined the band’s current line up on drums.
Rocking NY venues from Mercury Lounge and Glasslands to Brooklyn Bowl, the threepiece has branched out regionally and internationally with multiple appearances at CMJ, SXSW, Northside Festival, Indie Week (Toronto), and Halifax Pop Explosion (Nova Scotia). Already playing alongside international acts including JEFF the Brotherhood, J. Roddy Walston & the Business, and Japanther, Bugs in the Dark are poised and ready to take their place beside these greats.
