As part of free participatory art projecte Writing On It All, Bronx-born artist and poet Edwin Torres, three dancers from Collective Settlement (Felicia Ballos, Jean Brennan, Elizabeth Castagna), and tuba player Ben Stapp will be moving throughout a 19th century house on Governors Island. Generating sounds, images and words out of white paint, charcoal powder and water on the walls using straws, breath, hands and limbs. Music and language will be heard and moved-through, in an immersive environment for the audience to leave their marks on walls that breathe and move with their own stories. The Writing On It All project unfolds through a series of discrete sessions in which artists, writers, and interested members of the public will write on the interior of an out-of-use house. By using the house as a surface for writing, Writing On It All foregrounds the material nature of writing; working in a group underscores its social character.
