Brian Doan: hôme hôme hôme, at the Vilcek Foundation Gallery
Oct 11, 2013 @ 12:00 pm - Nov 9, 2013 @ 6:00 pm
In his first solo show in New York City, Mr. Doan culls imagery from his fragmented past to piece together a picture of identity, family and country. Utilizing video installation, glass sculpture, satirical self-portraits, and mixed-media assemblage (one piece features photography printed on a found-object car door), Mr. Doan articulates a struggle not only with his past, but also with who he is assumed to be in the present.
Poignant, thought-provoking, and not without a touch of humor, Mr. Doan’s exhibition explores the faceted nature of memory and the trials of not just the Vietnamese diaspora, but of anyone still looking for home.
