Piper is proud to present “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson” as our 2014 main stage production at the Old Stone House. Never has Presidential history or musical theatre been so raucous as in this look at one of our nation’s first populist idols: seventh president Andrew Jackson. In recreating the life of “Old Hickory” from his humble frontier beginnings to his days as Commander-in-Chief, “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson” takes textbook history and kicks in electricity, dirty deeds, punk rock rawness, and some sharp parallels between the rough-and-ready U.S. of the early 1800s and our red-and-blue modern age.
Piper is also thrilled to announce the return of Nigel Williams as the director and choreographer of “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson.” With past credits including “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” (Edinburgh Festival, Best Shakespeare Award), William Wharton’s “Birdy” (Edinburgh Festival), and Piper’s own “Nocturnes,” Nigel is a master of physical theatre, using its techniques to mesmerizing, menacing effect. With an emphasis on physicality and perpetual motion, Piper’s “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson” delivers an added jolt of adrenaline to this rock-and-roll musical’s Brooklyn debut.
