Black Maria Workshop and Thomas Edison Field Trip! Shoot your own Kinetoscope!
Jul 27, 2014| 50
Join MONO NO AWARE this summer as we return to the historical Black Maria replica at the Thomas Edison National Historical Park in West Orange, New Jersey. JOIN US on a BIG, YELLOW SCHOOL BUS with a bag lunch from URBAN RUSTIC for a ranger-guided tour of Edison’s Laboratory Complex with a very special opportunity to shoot film inside the Black Maria, America’s first movie studio! Coined the Black Maria by Edison’s employees (but referred to as The Doghouse by Edison himself), the building was the birthplace of commercialized film production. At the turn of the century, Edison and his staff produced hundreds of filmstrips within the Black Maria, with titles such as Wrestling, Cockfight and Barbershop, to be viewed in Kinetoscope parlors across the country. MONO NO AWARE will be setting up the camera for you to create your own short Kinetoscope on 16mm film! We will process the film and project them at 4 pm in the National Park.
