Billi Shakes transports her audience with Her unique blend of Bass Bumping 1920’s Libertine Punk and Digital Cabaret.
Not only is Billi the front singer and song writer for the PHAKESPEARE ORCHESTRA, she is also the sole choreographer for the group.
Studying African dance while living in South Africa, Billi combines modern day hip-hop, native African dance and classic burlesque styling, giving this unique form of performance a new and timeless feel.
Once again proving that NYC’s melting pot of culture and art is alive and exquisite as ever, everybody gather round, come see who’s in your town. You may only get once chance to ride on this SuperSystem!
The beginnings of Shiksa started at a comedy night in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in April of 2012. Gary French (Bass and Vocals) and Zarrin Taj (Lead Vocals, Guitar, Keyboards) met and discussed a want to make music like influences such Adam and The Ants, The Cars, and The Pixies. They exchanged samples of music and were soon writing songs together in the studio. Not too far afterward Jorge Vega (Drums, Vocals) joined the group and the song writing just accelerated. SHIKSA was now born! Often described as if the B’52’s, Chrissie Hynde, and Elvis Costello hosted an orgy and it was held at the Pixies house, this is what Shiksa sounds like. We are Shiksa and we’re ready to rock you!
