On October 1st and October 2nd during Bushwick Open Studios, artist and photographer Kat Ryals will host a group show of photography, mixed media sculpture, weavings, and paintings at her basement level studio at 1263 Bushwick Ave. Artists who will be showing work include Georgi Georgiev (Photography), Aqeel Malcolm (Textiles/Fibers), Kristin Arnesen (Mixed Media), Paul Neenan (Sculpture/Painting), Melani Pavlidou (Sculpture), Kat Ryals (Photography / Sculpture), Charles Sommer (Drawing/Painting), and Amanda Wallace (Photography/Sculpture).
Musician Nick Demopoulos will be playing his Smomid, an instrument that he created and designed, during the Artists Reception on Saturday October 1st at 7pm.
Many of the artists who will be showing work are recent MFA graduates from Brooklyn College, along with the Museum of Art and Design’s first Van Lier Fellow, Aqeel Malcolm.
Ryals will be showing a selection of dry plate tintypes titled Anthropomorphous, which were featured this month at the 4heads Governor’s Island Art Fair. She will also be showing her recent mixed media sculptures, large-scale lenticular prints, and the beginnings of a new installation.
The studio is located on the corner of Halsey and Bushwick Ave, one block from the J Halsey stop, and a fifteen minute walk from the L train. The B26 bus also stops right on the corner of Halsey and Bushwick Ave. While the studio is a bit off the beaten path, these transportation options make it easy to quickly get over to other parts of the neighborhood with more open studios!
More details about the other artists’ work will be released on Facebook at www.facebook.com/kryalsphoto
