B-Side: Iyadede

Apr 3, 2014 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join Brooklyn Independent Media for a live in-studio performance and interview with Brooklyn-based singer Iya Dede.

B-Side, Brooklyn Independent Media’s live in-studio music series, features performances from emerging and established musicians on select Thursday evenings. These performances are open to the public, however our studio space is limited.

The name Iyadede pronounced (E-ya-day-day) was given to her by her grandmother because it means “nobody but Dede can walk in Dede’s shoes” and Iyadede has walked many miles. She journeyed from Rwanda, where she was born to Belgium in order to escape the genocide that was ravishing her native land. From Belgium she moved to Brooklyn, where she resides today.

She began her music career touring with Zap Mama and performing across Europe, singing in French. Most of her songs are the expressions of learning and growth, and hopefully the non-final conclusion to her reflections.

Doors open at 7pm. Guests who would like to be part of the in-studio audience are encouraged to arrive early. Show starts around 7:30pm. Others are encouraged to watch a live simulcast from the Hungry Ghost Cafe next to the studio.
