ARCHITECTS IN PERMANENT RESIDENCE

Green-Wood boasts a spectacular collection of 19th-century architectural wonders by some of the most famed architects in American history. Designing works to immortalize their patrons, many—including James Renwick (St. Patrick’s Cathedral), Richard Michel Upjohn (Green-Wood’s Gothic Arch), Jacob Wrey Mould (Central Park’s Belvedere Castle and the Bow Bridge), and Gamaliel King (Brooklyn Borough Hall), among others—have also established their own permanent residences here. Part historical investigation, part homage, this walking tour highlights the critical role architects have played in designing the grand structures at of not only Green Wood, but of New York City. This program is made possible through support from the New York State Council on the Arts. Reservations are recommended.
