Fall in New York State is apple picking season and nothing says fall like apple pie. Claire‘s pie class will walk you through each step of making a pie totally from scratch–no need to ever buy a premade crust again when you see how easy it is! From dough making to rolling techniques, making a classic apple filling and emphesis on lattice and crust work, this 2 hour intro class will end on a delicious note as we debrief over a slice fresh from the oven.

Claire Matern grew up in Brooklyn and the food industry. Her dad is a FCI-trained chef and the former general manager of Dean & Deluca. In 2002 he opened his own cheese and specialty food shop, Blue Apron Foods in Park Slope. So, Claire is truly a cheesemonger’s daughter. She grew up being dragged into markets and food shops her whole life, watched and learned from her dad in the kitchen and is now cooking old family favorites and seasonal recipes inspired by dishes she grew up eating. Her goal is celebrate small and family owned businesses in New York, to know where her ingredients come from, and to show how fun cooking can be. She is “eating small in the big city.”
