Am I Write, Ladies?: Eat Your Words
Nov 23, 2015 @ 8:30 pm - 10:30 pm| $5
Am I Write, Ladies?: EAT YOUR WORDS is the fourth installment of recurring show Am I Write, Ladies?, a variety showcase of new and developing live art by women artists. Past shows have been at Dixon Place, Bohemian Grove, and the Fourth Arts Block’s Downtown Art. AIWL creates a safe yet well-curated space where women artists working in all sort of disciplines can experiment and try new things, as well as meet new artists and friends. Past AIWL artists have been profiled in VICE, published in magazines, and gone on to show work at prominent festivals and stages throughout the city and beyond.
This time around, all the acts are centered around the theme of food and eating! Just in time for the rapidly-approaching turkey day. We’ve got sandwich soliloquys, artichoke love songs, Japanese lunch anthems, succulent stand-up, Streisand burlesque, a play set in a Blockbuster, and many more tasty tidbits. Featuring work by Meghan Hourigan, Frankie P, Caitlin Cobb-Vialet, Nikki Vega, Lyndsey Bourne, Annie Pardoe, Futaba Shioda, Amy King, Took Edalow as Barbra Bitch, Hannah Kallenbach, and Cassidy Dawn Graves. Acclaimed playwright Jaclyn Backhaus will be doing a Q&A as well.
The show is created, curated, and produced by Cassidy Dawn Graves, and associate produced by Nikki Vega and Lyndsey Bourne. Cassidy is a performance artist, producer, and writer. She has performed her unique brand of solo work and theatre all over the city, at Under St Marks, Bizarre Bushwick, Silent Barn, Dixon Place, 440 Studios, and her Bushwick rooftop. Once, she performed naked in the street during Fashion Week. In addition to creating and producing AIWL, she in collaboration with composer and sound designer Dan Rider co-produces SoundBites, an evening of live radio dramas and curated food. She is also a writer, and has reported on arts and culture for NYMag’s Bedford + Bowery, NYU Local, and has had theatre criticism published in Howlround. She recently concluded a sold-out production of 50 Shades of Graves, her interactive sex education musical.
