Abstract Mechanical Realities
Jun 17, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm| free
Kayrock is proud to present “Abstract Mechanical Realities”, featuring Justin Amrhein and Monica Wynn. The exhibition includes conceptual diagrams created through installation, video, drawing and screenprinting.
Justin Amrhein is intrigued by discovering the components necessary to create a fully functional machine. Investigating the dynamics between combining the mechanical with the biological is a recurring concept throughout Amrhein’s work. In the form of schematic drawings, he defines the function and purpose of created elements that border between real objects and imaginary creations.
QoHstudio, Monica Wynn’s conceptual project space, uses 2D and 3D mediums to enact systems of tension in order to consider contemporary social conditions. The studio acts a reliquary for the future by proposing contemporary methods for cultural representation and documentation. Drawing upon visualizations of quantum mechanics and the relationships between spacetime and matter, themes such as distortion, power, amplitude, displacement, and capitalism, depict the individual and the collective in direct relationship to one another to create abstract scenes of violence.
“Abstract Mechanical Realities” showcases systematic diagrams which explore functionality, disfunctionality, reality and imagination.
