A Planned Parenthood Benefit with Alex Cameron, Rips, KVS, Cones Presented by A Song A Day

January 23 @ 8:00 pm - January 24 @ 12:00 am

| 12 - 15

Times are weird and the causes we care most about need our support. That’s why A Song A Day is hosting a Planned Parenthood Benefit at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn on Monday, January 23 with Alex Cameron (Sydney), Rips (Brooklyn), Katie Von Schleicher (Brooklyn), and Cones (LA) to support the organization’s incredible work.

Tickets are $12 adv., $15 at doors.Proceeds go to Planned Parenthood.

Australian musicians and business partners Alex Cameron and Roy Malloy’s debut album, Jumping The Shark had its US debut last year on Secretly Canadian. They’ve supported Mac DeMarco, Kevin Morby, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Thee Oh Sees, Angel Olsen, and more. As Pitchfork said“Cameron’s efficient, minimal compositions create the type of songs that penetrate deeply and linger in your consciousness long after you’ve stopped listening to them…”

Brooklyn band Rips have been making a name for themselves over the last couple years, drawing influence from late ’70s NYC bands like Television, The Feelies, and Student Teachers. The band is putting the finishing touches on their debut album, produced by Parquet Courts’ Austin Brown. Expect their debut LP in the spring. Listen to “Delay” on Brooklyn Vegan.

Recorded in a dark, Brooklyn room on a Tascam 4-track cassette machine, Katie Von Schleicher‘s Ba Da Bing debut Bleaksploitation is reminiscent of the 70s. It’s lo-fi collection of tracks full of gritty reverb and wonderful atmospherics. This is what happens when well-crafted songs are made in the moment, warped, drunk on themselves. Watch the live recording of the hauntingly beautiful “Move Through” on ThrdCoast.

Originally from the Bay Area and living in LA, the Rosen brothers (aka Cones) have been playing music together for years and just completed their debut EP Whatever You’re Into. Most recently, they toured as Eleanor Friedberger’s backing band across North America. Jonathan is an animator who has done videos for Toro y Moi, Delicate Steve, Eleanor Friedberger and more! His brother Michael is a commercial/film composer and experiential sound artist.
