A Donnie Darko-Themed FEELING GLOOMY (and 7th Anniversary!)
Oct 22, 2016 @ 10:30 pm| $6
Like Ministry, we have on occasion been accused of dressing like it’s Halloween even when it clearly isn’t. But luckily for us, there comes one time a year when our sense of style is in tune with the greater world around us, when our morbid senses of humor and our gloomy dispositions match the weather and the general feelings around us: Halloween.
This year we’ve decided to celebrate the occasion with a party dedicated to one of our favorite Halloween films: Donnie Darko. The film that introduced many to some of our favorite bands as well as to terrifying rabbit costumes and time travel. We’ll be celebrating a bit before the crush of Halloween, which will allow the Halloween lovers among us to pack in yet another night of terror and whimsy and whimsical terror.
Feeling Gloomy NYC recently lost our home of four years when Grand Victory closed down. Not everyone knows this, but Feeling Gloomy has actually been in NYC for longer before the iron grip of the Brothers Gloom, occurring regularly in the Lower East Side in the far off year of 2010. This October marks our 7th anniversary in America! What better time to make America gloom again?
After our killer Smiths party with the Skint last month we are also going to be breaking in a new party spot! The basement of Halyards recently opened up, and it’s an amazing space inside what was already one of our favorite bars (hands down winning the best iPod playlist in Brooklyn competition). It’s newly renovated, has plenty of space, a bar, and no realtor fees! We’re psyched to festoon it with decorations and fill it with delighted dancers and depressing ditties.
So what do we have in store?…
DO GO IN THE BASEMENT
A festive atmosphere awaits. Those cobwebs are decorations, friend. We’re going to raid the burning airlines section of the local party store.
IT’S A DEAD MAN’S PARTY
Your devoted DJs Gordon + Nathaniel Gloom will fill your ears and hearts with soundtrack selections by Oingo Boingo, Joy Division, Echo & the Bunnymen, Tears for Fears, INXS, and all of the most choice seasonal gloomy favorites
LET’S BE FRANK HERE
Break out your costumes early and win prizes! Or don’t and don’t win prizes! Tough decision!
