24th Annual Coney Island Sand Sculpting Contest
Aug 16, 2014 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm| Free
Brooklyn Community Services (BCS) is proud to announce a partnership with Astella Development Corporation for its 24th Annual Coney Island Sand Sculpting Contest, Saturday, August 16th from 12:00PM to 5:00PM between West 10th to West 12th Streets (beach and Boardwalk). This year’s contest brings together individuals, families and artists to celebrate the Coney Island community. Professional artists will build remarkable sculptures while community members and people from across the region will challenge each other for cash prizes. It will be a family-friendly and fun-filled day with live entertainment and activities for children. This annual event frequently attracts 3,000-4,000 visitors from the community and across the country.
All donations raised will support continued rebuilding efforts in Coney Island following Superstorm Sandy.
Coney Island was devastated by Superstorm Sandy and through the generous donations from various foundations, companies and individuals, BCS and Astella Development Corp. have provided support to people in need. To date, this effort has raised over $400,000 in private donations to support direct storm relief, as well as counseling and linkage services for storm victims. But there is a long way to go. BCS has partnered with Astella Development Corp. and its nationally recognized sand sculpting contest to raise additional financial resources to provide immediate and long-term support to rebuild the lives of Coney Island families affected by Superstorm Sandy. Information to register or to become a sponsor is available at: http://www.wearebcs.org/bcs/news_events/coneyislandsandsculpting/
BCS and Astella welcome continued sponsor Alliance for Coney Island as well as AriZona Beverages, which is sponsoring the contest for the first time. AriZona beverages will also be providing refreshments and games for children. BCS and Astella would also like to thank New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, for their continued technical support in making this event possible.
BCS envisions ONE Brooklyn Community, where all members of our community can access an excellent education, job opportunities, safe and affordable housing, and quality and affordable health care and wellness programs.
