Comedian Chris Gethard, the creator and host of The Chris Gethard Show is taking “the most bizarre and often saddest talk show in New York City,” from public access television to a major network. Gethard, who’s a regular at comedy events around Brooklyn and wrestled Joe Perra at a recent Jo Firestone show, has been trying to get his show on network TV for a while, getting rejected by Comedy Central and a bunch of other TV networks. Saving him from future anxiety and mental breakdowns, Fusion came along and picked up the series, which will premiere on Fusion TV on May 28. In celebration of Gethard getting them checks, Fusion, along with Brooklyn Vegan is celebrating the show’s premiere with a free screening and concert at Rough Trade in Williamsburg on the day of the premiere.

Along with a screening of the show’s first episode, new and old fans of the show will be treated to a free concert featuring Malbum, Hiccup, Jeff Rosenstock and Jersey’s finest, The Screaming Females. The band, which Stereogum calls “one of the best rock bands on the face of the earth today” is coming off the release of their fifth album Rose Mountainwhich released this past February.

The party on May 28 is first come, first served, and doors are at 7pm, so to see the new Chris Gethard Show, while getting to see some awesome bands perform live, make sure you get to Rough Trade early. Maybe at like, 3pm? Because this might be the only time we ever get to see Gethard experience this thing we call happiness and get a much deserved win.
