Great place to go back to the future. via Facebook You guys tired of all the free outdoor movies happening this summer? We know, it’s like, “Hey man, let us PAY for our entertainment, you’re making it too easy.” Well, bad news for those of you intent on paying: Habana Outpost‘s typically excellent Sunday summer movie schedule just landed on our inbox, and guess what? It’s a bunch of free excellent movies. The movies run every Sunday starting at 8pm from now through October, which is just freaking awesome. We recommend  getting there earlier than that though, if you don’t want to have to stand for two freaking hours while eating your Cuban sandwich and drinking your margarita. We’re all planning on wasting a beautiful late spring/early summer day to binge watch the episodes. You uh, you are, right? It’s not just us? ‘Sup, nerds. Wanna hang? Speaking of TV shows that were killed by Fox and left beautiful corpses, man, how about Firefly? That was an awesome show, kinda goofy theme song and all. But the sci-fi Western never caught on, with Fox not even airing the entire first season, to the chagrin of nerds like us. And while other TV shows have made it back from a Fox grave, Firefly wasn’t able to, except for a movie based on it, Serenity. Well, good news: Joss Whedon is stopping in at BAM later this month to introduce Serenity and watch it with all you nerds. Hooray! LOLwut. via the fever dream of someone at the New York Post The Islanders, who have been stuck in the virtual desert that is Uniondale for their entire history, are now moving to Brooklyn. This (and our thoughts on it) were all that were known about the move. Until now, with word leaking out that focus groups are testing out some new uniforms for the moribund franchise. But what colors correctly put forward “We used to play down the street from the Roosevelt Field mall?” The New York Post says that the team is holding focus groups about the Islanders’ colors and uniforms with both Islanders fans and Brooklyn natives separately  because that’s what you need to do when you’re a carpetbag franchise chasing dollars. And now, we’re not talking about hilarious baffling playoff misfires, we’re talking about the NBA All Star Game. Photo by Rachel DeLetto Last night, City Councilmember Letitia James convened a public hearing for residents of Fort Greene and Clinton Hill to talk about their opinions on the suddenly controversial bike share program, and it was slightly tense, as anything dealing with bikes is. People for and against the stations used “think of the children” as an argument, like a bunch of Helen Lovejoys, there were moments of booing and shouting and there was even a smattering of applause when James mentioned the vandalism of one of the bike stations, because we’re all reasonable adults here. This is why we can’t have nice things. via Brownstoner CitiBike: everyone loves it! Right? New Yorkers have been waiting with bated breath for the bike share program to finally get off the ground and steal some parking spaces from deserving cars and bully drivers into doing things like realizing people ride bikes around here. Well OK, so there was the guy staging a one-man sit-in in Manhattan, he didn’t like it too much. And now we can add extremely reasonable and not resorting anything rash yet people in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill, who object to Citi-branded bikes on landmark residential blocks. And he might be bringing a few AMAs with him — reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian is reportedly in talks to buy Jay-Z’s minority shares, and he’s making his bid on (surprise) reddit. Ohanian, who helped jumpstart reddit with fellow co-founder Steve Huffman in 2005, lives in Brooklyn Heights and is apparently a Nets season ticketholder; which you’d think would give him ample opportunity to see Joe Johnson toss bricks and therefore think twice about this. More ultimate than Buffalo Wild Wings? via Here’s Park Slope Things have been relatively peaceful in the months since the LIBOR Barclays Center landed in Fort Greene. Residents have been able to fight off a potential Hooters invasion and roving bands of publicly urinating yahoos in Jerry Stackhouse jerseys haven’t been seen all that often. But it looks like there are some dark clouds on the horizon in the form of a giant sports bar/lounge/restaurant thing landing in the neighborhood soon.
