Brokelyn is on vacation!

Gas card

Yes, even your tireless brokesters in arms need to take a little break. So we’re going dark for the week to cool our laptops, recharge our batteries and stock up on posts to come back with a vengeance ready for the fall.  We’ll still be tweeting (and may slip in an occasional post). But  for the rest of the week, we’re turning this thread over to YOU, fair readers. Tell us: What do you want to see more of on the site? On which missions of thriftiness should we deploy the troops in coming months?

Do you like the Brokelyn road test? Free date ideas? Secret tips for living cheaply? Do you live in a neighborhood that doesn’t get enough Brokelyn love? Dirt-cheap beer taste testings? Tell us! Hey, if you’re motivated enough, you could even join Team Brokelyn.

In the meantime, check out our friends at the skint for listings of free and cheap stuff this week. And you can revisit (or discover) some of Brokelyn classics, like this guide to recycling and getting rid of all of your old stuff, tips for getting a cheap tattoo, car-service price checks and our Foursquare rewards guide to Brooklyn.

See you in a week! We’ll miss you!

now that’s an idea I could certainly use. Current pair, my mom bought for me as a moving-to-BK gift. From JC Penney’s. In New jersey. Felt like I was 15 years old again.

@ rachel — this isn’t based in brooklyn but zennioptical.com has insanely cheap RX glasses (we’re talking $30 with shipping included!) — my last two pairs have been from there and i haven’t had any problems with them.

I’d be interested to find out more about affordable pet care in Brooklyn (flea meds, spay/neuter clinics, adoptions facilities, boarding, etc.) I moved here from Austin last year, where there is a terrific non-profit wellness & spay/neuter facility. Anything comparable in this neck of the woods?

  4. EyeBuyDirect.com also has great cheap glasses, and if you get on their email list, they have buy one get one deals about twice a year.

I’d also like to see something about where to buy cheap art supplies- paint, craft stuff, etc.
