Thursday is basically the Friday of the workweek, so kick back and relax tonight
Thursday is basically the Friday of the workweek, so kick back and relax tonight

Well, here it is, Thursday. The big news of the day is the Republican clown car is depositing its ten most popular candidates in Cleveland for a reasoned debate. You could watch it, but there are also a million other things you could do. You can go to the movies, you can meet up with a Tinder date, you can get high and lay naked on your roof, you can do any of these five awesome things found on the Brokelyn Event Calendar. Sadly the only thing you can’t do is watch the new-look, first-place Mets, who have the day off.

SYFY MOVIES WITH A VIEW PRESENTS: FRIDAY
I know you don’t watch movies in the park, I know this; but you really should today, cause it’s Thursday, you ain’t got no job and you ain’t got shit to do. Haha, get it? Like the movie that’s playing in the park tonight. Anyway, go see it because it’s really funny.

WHAT’S THE SCOOP? THE STORY OF VAN LEEUWEN ICE CREAM
Shockingly, the story of how Van Leeuwen became a succesful ice company is described as “whimsical.” No wait, that’s not surprising at all, this is small batch ice cream we’re talking about here. Anyway, find out how they became one of Brooklyn’s favorite ice cream shops and more importantly, eat ice cream they provide.

THE LONELY FREELANCER PREMIERE PARTY
Do you freelance? Ever look up and realize you haven’t spoken to or seen another human being in 6, 7, 8 hours? Then the premiere of the webseries The Lonely Freelancer is for you. Although it could also be for you if you like scripted or standup comedy, or want to see Murf Meyer and Diane Kolsky (who interviewed Jimmy McMillan for their sex podcast) live and in-person.

Q TRAIN
In other parts of Brooklyn, queer folks have some options when it comes to parties, but in Ditmas Park they’ve only got Q Train. Although that doesn’t sound so bad, since it’s a night of bingo followed by a raucous dance party where there’s the promise of things getting steamy. How steamy exactly? I recommend not wearing many clothes, just in case, and also becuase it’s summer so just do that in general.
8pm, Sycamore, 1118 Cortelyou Road, Ditmas Park, FREE

ROOFTOP FILMS PRESENTS: BIKES VS. CARS
It turns out that New York isn’t the only place where cyclists and drivers are at each other’s throats, it’s a worldwide issue. This documentary presented by Rooftop Films looks at the ancient struggle between the two transportation modes in an attempt to figure out if bikes will ever actually win. Obviously I’m hoping they do.
