It’s Tuesday, it’s sunny and mild outside and the Mets playoff series that will turn you into a couchbound emotional wreck doesn’t start until this weekend. Even better than that, there’s so much good stuff going on today that picking just five fun things to do from the Brokelyn Events Calendar was hard. Not that I wasn’t happy to do it for you, because I want you to check out Sloane Crosley’s first novel or Running Late’s birthday or an erotic fan fiction competition that could awaken something deep inside of you.

SHIPWRECK: “NO ADMITTANCE EXCEPT ON PARTY BUSINESS”
There’s nothing in the world quite like some good old fashioned fan fiction, especially when it goes off the rails into sexy times. Tonight, see 6 professional writers like BuzzFeed’s Isaac Fitzgerald, WORD’s Molly Templeton and Slate and Guardian freelancer Ashley Ford have their J.R.R. Tolkien erotic fan fiction read by Welcome to Night Vale‘s Cecil Baldwin. Pay attention though, because you determine which work will be deemed the best worst erotic fiction, before the winner is revealed and cast out from polite society.
7pm, The Bell House, 149 7th Street, Gowanus, $12

SLOANE CROSLEY: THE CLASP
Sloane Crosley has already made you laugh and think with her essay collections, but I guess she got bored of that, because here she is with her fiction debut The Clasp. Not that she decided to get all serious just because she’s no longer writing essays. Instead, she’s got the story of a madcap adventure as three friends in their late 20s search for a necklace lost during the Nazi occupation of Paris. Sounds good, since we all know the hunt for Nazi gold is always a zany good time.

JASON STANLEY ON DEMOCRACY AND THE DEMAGOGUE
The election’s silly season is well under way, and while we can have some fun and smash some pinatas and the like, there’s also a danger lurking behind the laughs. Let fancy Yale professor Jason Stanley explain the history of demagoguery in the United States, how they can about, and the unique dangers they pose to the very fabric of democracy. And then, having learned why we shouldn’t do it, we can all go back to laughing at Donald Trump.

RUNNING LATE 4 YEAR ANNIVERSARY SHOW
Finally, Scott Rogowsky is bringing Running Late BACK to Brooklyn. After a year spent entertaining people in the wild, savage lands of Manhattan Island, Running Late is celebrating four years of laffs with an anniversary show featuring Saturday Night Live‘s Horatio Sanz, weirdo late night character Dale Seever, comedian about town Aparna Nancherla and of course Scott’s dad and sidekick Marty Rogowsky for an evening of live late night talk show antics.
9:30pm, Littlefield, 622 Degraw Street, Gowanus, $15

HIP HOP TRIVIA HOSTED BY DONWILL
“Hip hop hooray, ho, hey ho!” is what you might be saying when you see it’s time for hip hop trivia once again, but the more important question is who actually recorded “Hip Hop Hooray”? If you answered “Naught by Nature” before you were even done reading the question, you’re ready to show off your hip hop trivia for host Donwill. A word of advice though, and allow the man to actually finish the question before you answer. It’s rude otherwise, and sometimes the question has a twist.
