Apartment hunt: a bunch of Red Hook 3BRs for $2,000

Any apartment for under $700 a bedroom catches our eye, especially if it’s new construction. So what’s the story with all of these Red Hook places that just hit our Brooklyn apartment listings? According to the broker at Brownstone Listings, nine brand new units — three 3BR at $2000, three 3BR at $2150, and three 2BR duplexes at $2400 — will be available for move in October 1 and 15. Here’s a look inside:

•  The middle apartment is the best deal for brokesters at just $2000 for the 3BR/1 bath unit. Each has an identical floor plan including a spacious kitchen with granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances, dishwasher, washer/dryer hook up in unit (unclear whether actual washer/dryer will be included) and a balcony. Although the money you save on rent may be spent getting cabs home late at night.

•  The top floor units are 3BR/1 bath at $2150 and have all of the amenities of the second floor plus rooftop access for a panoramic view of the surrounding park, ball fields, the creepy abandoned grain terminal and city skyline in the distance. Bonus: it’s steps from Ikea. Now all you have to worry about is assembling that fine crafted Sweedish patio set and you’ll be all set for an Oktoberfest BBQ on your roof.

•  The first floor apartments are 2BR/1.5 bath duplexes going for $2400. It’s hard to tell from the photos, but according to the listing, the master bedroom has a private deck and there is a large “family room” area. Also, the listing indicates this unit includes free indoor parking. Having a car that you don’t have to worry about parking in Red Hook is certainly a bonus on this pretty sweet deal, even if the Smith and 9th station is allegedly opening again soon and the Ikea bus station is only a few blocks away.

  1. Floor plans and pictures of the apartments themselves (rather than the recycled kitchen and bedroom pictures and a picture of the harbor) would be nice; doesn’t seem like a whole lot to ask for new construction being listed by a broker who presumably wants 15%.

Two words explain this incredible deal: Lorraine Street. Your neighbors in these new townhouses at Hicks and Lorraine will be low-rise projects and Red Hook Park that, while charming in its way on a Summer Sunday, is a desolate wasteland much of the year. The development also remained unfinished and unworked-on for many months, which can’t say much for the construction quality. Also make sure you take a tour of the local grocery store before you sign that lease.

Someone will certainly rent them though.
