Like reading outside but wish you had more choices than the one book you brought with you? We feel you. You could start carrying a whole bunch of books with you, but that’d be ridiculous. Instead, we suggest hopping on the Governors Island ferry tomorrow and hitting up Library Lawn, their new outdoor library.

A press release announced the new project, which will join things like Jazz Age lawn parties, the NYC Poetry Festival and blowing up buildings as an awesome new way to spend a summer day on the island. The reading room will be open from noon to 5pm each day the island is open. The project is backed by the Queens, Brooklyn and NYC library branches, who will all be providing books to fill up the library’s shelves. While you’re there, you can also register for a library card if you don’t have one, but since it will be staffed with library employees, you won’t be able to escape the knowing looks from librarians who know how much you owe in late fees back on the mainland. Just don’t wilt under the pressure.
