‘Twas a dark and stormy Transit of Venus

Last night, while Team Brokelyn was doing pun sprints, Brooklyn event photographer Jane Kratchovil was waiting in her DUMBO apartment, Nikon D700 at the ready, watching for Venus to pass in front of the sun.

“After full coverage of clouds all afternoon, the sun suddenly poked out at 7:27pm for 4 1/2 minutes,” she writes on Flickr. “Just enough time for me to grab my camera and capture the transit of Venus over downtown Manhattan from my apartment window.” That’s the AIG building at 70 Pine Street on the left, and Venus is that tiny black spec just after 12 midnight on the sun. (We tried to wipe it off too.) The squiggle on the left is the Dark Knight.
