Actual weather lately be damned, spring and summer are on their way, it’s just a fact of life. That also means that Celebrate Brooklyn announcements are starting to dribble out, bit by bit. We know that Chaka Khan is opening up the concert season, and now in another herald of warm weather, we got a press release with the schedule for the always fun Brooklyn Bridge Park dance parties. You can’t hide from us forever, warmth.

The parties kick off on May 14 at 7pm, and then go for the next two Thursdays, also at 7pm. Every dance party will be held at Pier 1 at Brooklyn Bridge Park, allowing you to either dance on the grass or just lie there outside of dancing range and enjoy watching other people dance. Either way, you’ll be outside listening to music in the warm weather, which is great.

As always, each dance party will have a different theme, so don’t worry if you can’t dance to one kind of music or another, you’re probably covered. May 14 will be a classic soul and funk dance party hosted by Sonny Knight and the Lakers and will also get some love from Felix Hernandez’ Rhythm Revue. May 21’s electro-soul night will be headlined by Jamie Lidell, with support from DJ duo JDH and Dave P, as well as the Brooklyn United Marching Band. And finally, on May 28, you get a Latin jazz party, that starts with a salsa lesson and then sees performances from Poncho Sanchez and DJ/former MSG Network fixture Bobbito Garcia.

It’s been a long winter, so get your dancing shoes all shined up and get ready to unleash a season’s worth of pent up longing for a good time outside. It’s only a little over a month away.
